Govrusik, The Very Rev. John W., 93, Laurel View Village, died September 3, 2016. Born January 23, 1923 in Peabody, MA, the son of Vladimir and Anna (Michalczyk) Govrusik. Preceded in death by parents; son, The Rev. Fr. John Jr.; and 2 sisters. Survived by wife, (Matushka), the former Olga Handziuk; daughter, Daria (Robert) Yanosky, Central City; grandson, Robbie (Ashley); granddaughters, Stacey, Tiffany, and Nadine; daughter-in-law, Irene (Chupeck) Govrusik, Syracuse, NY; and sister, Mary Palladino, Lynnfield, MA. Father John was a graduate of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in South Canaan, PA. Ordained in 1944. He served at St. Andrew Orthodox Church, Baltimore, MD; St. John the Divine Orthodox Church and St. Michael Orthodox Church, both of Monessen; SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Boswell; SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Pine Hill; and St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Central City. Father John served in numerous church and civic positions. A special thanks to Fr. Donald, Fr. Andrew, and the staff at Laurel View Village for their devoted care to Fr. John. Friends will be received from 4-6 pm Tuesday at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, followed by funeral service for a priest, 111 Alberta Ave., Johnstown. Divine Liturgy will be sung at 9 am Wednesday, followed by Funeral Service at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church. Committal St. Tikhon’s Monastery Cemetery, South Canaan, PA.
