It is with great sorrow that we announce that Sheron Custer went to meet our Lord and Savior on February 5th at UPMC Somerset Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. Preceded in death by her parents; sister, Cookie; her husband, Gerald Custer. She is survived by children, Carol (Mark) Abbott, Michael (Kim); grandchildren, Alexandra "Peanut" (Andrew) Greaves, Alicia (Jason) Duttle, Ashley (Sean) Sgarlata, Alexis Abbott (Jeff Gamber), Michael Custer and Barbara Custer; Great grandchildren, Chloe, Kylie and Zoe; Also Aunt Ruth, Vicki, Steve and Jimmy and too many other loved ones to count. Because to her, all of her loved ones were family and special to her.
Sheron Lee Watts was born in Alexandria, Virginia, January 29, 1947. At 16 years of age she met and later married her true love, Gerald Custer. It’s been jokingly said that her affinity and his likeness for Elvis are what initially drew her to him. They married and came to build a life together in Central City, Pennsylvania. Together they raised 2 children, Michael and Carol, tackling life’s challenges. They enjoyed a home of faith, love and happiness.
Those blessed to know her may remember her love of gardening, planting trees and flowers, history (especially the Civil War), Elvis, her fabulous and meticulous baking, traveling, and road trips with friends and family. She was a free spirit with a sense of adventure and zest for life, taking a raft down the rapids with friends and parasailing at age 57 to name a few. Most of all she loved her family and her friends. Like her husband Gerald, she was a loving person that truly cared for everyone she met and even those that she didn’t. She would give you her last dollar if needed.
She is already deeply missed. The world was a much better place with her in it.
To our Mom, Granny, sister, cousin, aunt and friend…the world will not be the same without you.
In lieu of flowers please consider an everlasting tribute, a perennial, flowering shrub or tree, that will be planted in "Sheron's Garden" as an ongoing memorial, on the family property that will be planted in the spring. To order for the garden, call 814-445-7028 or visit Baker's Home and Garden Center. Due to time of the year, Baker's will issue gift certificates in your name and they will be redeemed this spring by the family to be planted in Sheron's memory.
