Kaniuk, Samuel, 90, formerly of Coraopolis and Reitz #2, Cairnbrook, PA, died June 25, 2018, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Wexford, PA. Born November 29, 1927 in Cassandra, (Portage), PA. son of Lesio and Nancy (Berezonsky) Kaniuk. Preceded in death by parents; wife of 64 years, Mary (Radyk) Kaniuk; sisters, Katherine, Ann, and Mary; brothers, Andy, Metro, John, Frank and Steve. Sam was the last immediate family of nine siblings. He is survived by daughters Christine (Very Rev. Basil Zebrun) Ft. Worth, TX and Susanne (Very Rev. Michael Senyo), Allison Park, PA; four grandsons, Nicholas Zebrun, Michael (Tiffany) Zebrun, Michael (Trisha) Senyo, and Alexander (Laura) Senyo; one great-granddaughter, Carsyn Zebrun; nine nieces and ten nephews. A 1946 graduate of Shade High School, he worked for several years with his father in the coal mines and often referred to his interesting education at “Black Diamond College”. Sam proudly served his country in the United Sates Air Force in an Intelligence Unit. Following his military discharge he attended and graduated from West Penn Technical School with a degree in mechanical drafting. Sam then worked his career as a machinist at Homestead Industries, Coraopolis, PA, and served the Union as recording secretary for many years at Local 1351. In retirement he enjoyed being back home in Shade Twp. where he greatly appreciated the great outdoors, hiking, fishing, deer spotting and picking mushrooms in the fall. He loved everything historical and was an avid reader. Often a quiet man he possessed strong principles and a generous heart. He was dedicated to both family and friends, and throughout his life was known to have given frequently to others in need. Sam loved helping at his home parish of SS Peter & Paul. In addition, he volunteered as a curator at the Shade-Central City Museum where his expertise was in the history of the area’s coal mining industry. Friends will be received Monday, July 2 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm with Panahida at 8 pm, Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City. PA. Funeral at 10 am, Tuesday, July 3, at SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, 140 Wheeler Street, Central City, PA followed by burial at SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Church Greek Catholic Cemetery. Graveside military rites by Central City American Legion and VFW Posts. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to SS Peter & Paul Orthodox Greek Catholic Church.
