Roger Black Obituary

Black, Roger L., 68, Central City, died August 12, 2017, at home.  Born April 3, 1949, the son of the late Stanley and Anna Black.  Survived by wife of 51 years, the former Virginia Gibbons; daughter, Merlene (Dominick) Ponziani, Harrison City; son, Roger S. (Jessica), Mars; grandchildren, Francesca, Michelina, Ava, Remington and Vivian; brother, Ricky  (Melodie), Stoystown; and sister, Rena, and fiancé, Bobby Letosky, Central City.  Roger was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1967 to 1970 with both the 101st and 199th Divisions.  He was awarded five Purple Hearts and was nominated for the Bronze Star.  An avid bow hunter, trapper and fisherman.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and picking ginseng.  Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Pastor Randy Reynolds.  Private family committal.  Military honors by Central City American Legion and VFW Posts.  In lieu of flowers, family asks donations be made to the Central City Christian Church or In-Touch Hospice in Roger’s memory. www.mulcahyfuneralhome.com
