Richard Renzi Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard J. Renzi, 77, of Windber, PA, who God peacefully called home on Monday, March 24, 2025 to reunite in Heaven with his brother, Anthony, and the rest of his loved ones. Born in Baker Whitely, PA, he was the son of Nazareno and Lucy (Degory) Renzi. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Anthony; father-in-law, Robert Cicciarelli; mother-in-law, Sue Cicciarelli, sister-in-law, Linda Renzi, brother-in-law, Roy Brubaker, nephew, Michael Renzi; and infant niece.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Sue (Cicciarelli) Renzi; daughter, Sarah (James) Pruss; son, Robert (Melanie) Renzi; brother, Joe Renzi; brother Ned (JoAnne) Renzi; sister-in-law, Deborah Renzi; sister-in-law Diane Brubaker; loving grandsons, Owen and Hudson Renzi and James “Teddy” Pruss; brotherly cousin, Mark Degory; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved boxer Archie.

He was a history and economics teacher for many years at Berlin Brothersvalley School District. He was not only passionate about teaching students in the classroom, but also instructing players on the field during his time coaching high school football at both Berlin Brothersvalley and Shade Central City School Districts.

Known for his unwavering faith, witty sense of humor, and genuine love for his family, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  He was an avid gardener and known as the “Garlic King” in Central City.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms, music, dancing, playing cards with his grandsons and friends, and watching college football.  He cherished his Italian heritage and enjoyed canning tomato sauce and making homemade Italian pasta and soups to share with others.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 10 to 11 AM at Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, PA. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, Windber Hospice, or The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
