Pruss, Jack S., 66, Central City, died September 19, 2015, at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. Born April 12, 1949, the son of Fred T. and Beatrice J. Pruss. Preceded in death by parents; brother, John; half-brother, Gene Ling; and brother-in-law, Rodney. Survived by wife, the former Elizabeth Schofield; daughters, Mary (Jeffrey) Plies; Stephanie (Reno) Fiedler; and Ann (Richard) Wasko. Also survived by six grand-children. Brother of James (Bonnie); Joann (Carley) Burkholder; Gary (Carolyn); and Patricia Suffecool. And a number of nieces and nephews. He was a retired Equipment Operator for Pa. D.O.T., and a U.S. Army veteran, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. Jack was a hard worker, devoted spouse, loving father and grand-father, and an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends. He was a movie buff and was often at the theatre with a big soda and buttery popcorn…..maybe some dots too. He was devoted to veterans and served as VFW Commander for fifteen years and was a lifelong legion member. He was relentless in his determination to beat the beast that is cancer. His courage and strength carried him through until his last breath. We will remember and cherish his laughter, his presence and zest for life. To honor Jack, we ask that you carry out a random act of kindness in his name. Then raise a glass in his memory. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to James E. Van Zandt Medical Center C.L.C., or a veteran’s charity of your choice. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Central City United Methodist Church, Rev. Beth Nelson. Committal Daley Cemetery. Graveside military rites by Menoher Post 155 VFW. www.mulcahyfuneralhome.com.
