Harry Joseph King, 86, of Stoystown, PA passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, at Laurel View Village in Davidsville, PA.
Harry was born on September 12, 1939, in Westland, PA to the late Harry W. and Estelle (Piechnik) King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Werner King and sister Estelle Ann Taylor. He is survived by son Scott (Joan), grandson Nathaniel, all of Katy, TX; and daughter Nancy (David Madson) of Friendship, ME.
Harry was a graduate of Elizabeth Forward High School, California State College, and University of Pittsburgh. For more than 40 years, Harry dedicated himself to education. He began his career teaching mathematics in Green Tree, PA before moving on to administrative roles, first as a principal at schools in Pittsburgh and Coraopolis, PA then as a school superintendent at Shade-Central City and Southern Huntingdon County school districts.
Harry and Gladys - who were high school sweethearts - married on November 18, 1961. In 1973, they moved to Somerset County where he spent the rest of his life. Harry was a long-time member and active volunteer for Hooversville Lions Club and St. Thomas Lutheran Church. He loved keeping busy with his woodworking (making furniture for his children and friends), vegetable gardening, and watching his beloved sports teams. He was a long-time season ticket holder for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pitt Panthers and never tired of yelling at the TV when they played.
Harry was first and foremost a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A service will be held at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Hooversville, PA on Saturday, May 2 – visitation at 12pm, followed by a service and reception at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Thomas Lutheran Church.
