Russian, George, 92, Cairnbrook, passed away peacefully September 20, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Born April 26, 1923, the son of John and Catherine Russian. Preceded in death by parents, four brothers and two sisters. He was a terrific husband to Rena. He had a deep love for his daughters, Karen, Kathy and Donna who survive him. Sons-in-law, George Ross and the late Ernie Blough. He was a caring and fun loving grandfather to Ernie, Scott, Leanne, Justin and Brandon. He was happy to have his extended family, Sarah, Kim and Mike in his life. George was blessed with his great-grandchildren, Sydney, Dominic, Lily, Michaela, Amelia and his Kora Jean. He was fortunate to have loving caregivers, especially Peggy. He is survived by his brother John. He was a man of faith and a member of Graef’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his gardening. Everyone loved Pappy’s garlic and his 100 pound pumpkins. George walked his steps on this earth as a dedicated man by serving as a marine in the South Pacific during WWII. He raised his family in Cairnbrook while working as a coal miner and at Shade High School. His kind hearted soul will be truly missed by the people whose lives he touched. The Russian family would like to thank Windber Hospice, Northern EMS, Central City Fire Department, the UMWA, the VA and Somerset County Area on Aging. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Graef’s Lutheran Church.
