George A. Barta

Barta, George A., 93, Cairnbrook, died March 23, 2016, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.  Born May 17, 1922, the son of Andrew and Margaret (Slage) Barta.  Preceded in death by parents; wife, Minnie; son, Frank; brothers, Louis, Ernie, Albert and Pete; sisters, Lillian and Mary.  Survived by sons, George Jr. (Margaret), Friedens; Gerry (Kathy), Somerset; and Timothy (Carol), Colorado; 12 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.  Also survived by brother, Elmer, Cairnbrook; and a number of nieces and nephews.  George was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former POW.  He was a life member of VFW Post 554 and a proud member of UMWA Local 6410.  Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, and from 12:30 until time of service at 1 p.m. Monday at Graef Lutheran Church, Cairnbrook, the Rev. Jeff Bassett.  Committal McGregor cemetery.  Graveside military rites by the Somerset County Honor Guard.  In lieu of Flowers, friends who wish may make donations to the Disabled American Veterans in George’s memory.  www.mulcahyfuneralhome.com.
