Donald Konitsky Sr. (Doner) Obituary

Konitsky, Donald J. Sr. (Doner) 81, passed away on December 22, 2020, his and Peggy’s 60th wedding anniversary.  Don died peacefully in his sleep with his wife and children at his side, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.  Born on June 26, 1939, son of Stanley and Rose (Kieta) Joebon Konitsky.  Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Edward, Stanley and Walter Joebon, sister, Betty Konitsky Shank and niece, Rose Marie Shank McGinnis, sisters in law, Harriet Konitsky and Edythe Joebon.  Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Peggy (Rice), loving children, Wendy and husband Lou Mihalko, Kelly and husband Robert Brumbaugh, Donald Jr and partner, Tracey Shaffer.  PapPap to Chelsea Mihalko Trimbath (Tyler), Larissa Mihalko Lyons (Derek) and Daniel Mihalko (Hannah).  Pappy to Courtney Georg McFeaters (Ron) and Ryan Georg.  PaPa to his little granddaughter, Olivia Rose Konitsky, who lit up his life for the past five years.  Also survived by great-grandchildren, Elin and Gabe Trimbath, brothers, Robert Joebon, Cortland, Ohio and James Konitsky, Central City, nephew, James Konitsky Jr (Kimberly) and nieces, Kim and Vicky Joebon, Ohio and his faithful little puppy, Sami.  Don was a graduate of Shade High School and was formerly employed by Consolidation Coal and Fairmont Supply Company.  Don was a proud Navy veteran, serving from 1959-1963.  He was stationed at the Naval Air Stations in Naples, Italy and Lakehurst, NJ, where he was a member of Helicopter Squadron 4 and served aboard the U.S.S. Newport News during the Cuban Blockade.  Don was a jack of all trades who remodeled his home from top to bottom.  In his youth, he enjoyed fishing at the Windber Dam, hunting and being outdoors.  He loved to garden, make wine and ride around town in his 1965 black Corvette.  He especially loved boating, buying his first boat while living and working in Delaware.  After moving back to PA, he enjoyed boating at Raystown Lake, Indian Lake and hauling the boat on family vacations to Rehoboth Beach, DE.  Don was a member of DAV, PNA, St. John the Baptist Society, VFW Post #7457 and American Legion Post #449.  The family would like to thank Windber Hospice and the team from Home Based Primary Care Program James E.
