Elko, Catherine Helen, 93, Cairnbrook, passed away February 25, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. at Windber Hospital. Born June 2, 1925, in Jerome, the daughter of Stanley and Mary Rycyk. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Nick Sr.; and sister, Mary Jane Tokarz. She is survived by two children, Patty, wife of D. Kent Goodger; Nicholas, married to the former Andrea Wojcik. She also has three grandchildren, Brian and Lisa Goodger and Nicholas Elko, who she adored. And two great-grandchildren, Zach and Zoey Goodger. Sister of Stella Kosco, Belle Vernon; Stanley (Margaret) Rycyk, Gettysburg. Helen attended Conemaugh Township High School and worked at Berkey’s Store until she met her husband, Nick. They married on November 15, 1947 and moved to Cairnbrook. She was a homemaker and also had a career at Jennifer Jones Sewing Factory, retiring after 23 years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Catholic Council and the VFW Auxiliary. Helen spent many retirement days at the Central City Senior Center playing bingo and enjoying the camaraderie with other members. She loved her family and friends, and cooking polish food. She will be missed by all who knew her. Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Thursday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Queen of Angels (Sacred Heart). Father Aron Maghsoudi, Celebrant. Committal SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Greek Catholic cemetery.
