Agnes Palya Obituary

Palya, Agnes, J., 96, of Central City, passed away on August 4, 2020 at Country Manor Living. She was born in Paint Township, Somerset County on June 11, 1924, the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Pero) Bednar. She was the wife of the late Steve Palya, who passed away in 1988. During WWII she proudly worked in a New York City defense plant, assembling electronic parts for the military. She retired from Dorfman and Hoffman Sewing Factory after 30 years of employment. She was a very active member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church (St. John’s) in Central City. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting until her eyes became too weak. During the week she visited the Senior Center and participated with gusto on the trips to various casinos. She spent many hours as a volunteer sewing quilts for hospice and crocheting hats for newborns and cancer patients, and was honored by the retired and senior volunteer program of Somerset County. She is survived by daughter, Bernadette A. Miller, wife of Jerry Miller, Springfield, MO and her son, Steve Palya, husband of Amy Palya, Stoystown, PA. She is also survived by three grandsons, Brian Miller (Kelly Finley Miller), Ashley Palya (Rachel Palya), and Adam Palya; great-grandchildren, Everett Miller and Danielle Palya; one sister Bernadine Zell of Lancaster, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew Bednar, Joseph (Sam) Bednar, and Michael Bednar; and four sisters, Mary Witkecz, Helen Drapelick, Dorothy Smolar, and Anna Shenigo. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Country Manor Living and Conemaugh Regional Hospice. Private Graveside Service, St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Saturday, Father Aron Maghsoudi. www.mulcahyfuneralhome.com.
