In March of 1947, Robert P. Mulcahy purchased the L. Fern and Mayme Wagner home at 305 Central Avenue in Central City, Pennsylvania. The son of Francis and Fay (Morford) Mulcahy, he was a 1939 graduate of Shade Township High School.

A World War II veteran with 40 months of service, he served in the country of Eritrea located in the Horn of Africa, seeing duty as a laboratory technician with the Army Medical Corps at the 104th Station Hospital there.

He was a graduate of the Eckels School of Embalming that was located in Philadelphia and was employed by the Dimond Funeral Home in Windber prior to opening his own funeral home in May of 1947. His wife, the former Elizabeth Mastrolembo was originally from Windber. She was a 1943 graduate of Windber High School and a 1947 graduate of the Windber Hospital School of Nursing. She was active in the funeral home with her husband while also working as a nurse and raising family of three children.

In 1983, the Mulcahy’s son, Robert F. purchased the funeral home from his parents. They both remained involved in the funeral home operations until their deaths. Robert passed away in 1992. Elizabeth was very involved in community affairs in both Central City and her hometown of Windber. She was a correspondent for the local newspaper and was an integral part of the Windber Centennial Committee and very active with the Windber Hospice program. Elizabeth passed away in early 2012.
