SCAIFE---Charles “Charlie” Sr., the world lost a great man on Sunday, March 15, 2015, when Charlie Scaife Sr. went to be with the Lord. A true blessing, Charlie entered the world on June 10, 1948, by his parents, the late Archie T. and Ruth Bowman Scaife. Charlie graduated from Shade High School, Central City in 1966. After graduation, he attended and graduated from the Electronic Institute of Pittsburgh, in 1968. From there, Charlie moved on to Waynesboro, VA, to work for General Electric until he was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1969. Charlie served in the U.S. Army until 1971. Following his discharge from the Army, Charlie moved to Erie to work at General Electric Co. in Building 12. Charlie worked at GE until 1986, and then went on to work for AMSCO, which later merged with Steris Corp., until his retirement in 2010. In his spare time, Charlie liked to travel with his wife, Karen, spend time with his four sisters, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed eating out, watching TV, listening to country music, going to concerts and playing with his cats. Charlie also took the time to pass on his wisdom of hos to fix household things and his knowledge of car mechanics to his children and grandchildren. Besides his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Charlie will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 46 years, Karen Scaife, and his three loving children, Michele (Darren), Charles (Ginger) and April (Ben). Charlie had 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Ashley, Justin, Carrie, Desi, Andy, Katie, Ruthie, William and Cara. In addition, he leaves behind his four loving sisters, Ila Jean Custer (Roger), Kathy Romanowksi, Doris Gahagan (Ted) and Cindy Ashbrook. Charlie also will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Friends were received at Dusckas Funeral Home Inc., 2607 Buffalo Road, Erie, PA 16510 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, and again from 10 a.m. until time of service at Noon Saturday at Central City United Methodist Church. Committal, IOOF Cemetery, Berlin. Graveside rites accorded by the Somerset County Ritual Team. Memorial contributions may be made to ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th St., Erie, PA 16511.
